Meet the CRD

We are led by committed local leaders in education, business, and community development. You probably have and/or will run into us at the supermarket, park, school, or one of our local cafes. Say hi anytime—we’ll see you in Mancelona.

Board

Mike Allison, Chair

Mike is Village President and serves on multiple local boards, including Mancelona Area Water and Sewer Authority, Antrim County Economic Development Corporation, Mancelona Area Joint Planning Commission, and Downtown Development Authority.

Chuck Johnson, Vice Chair

Chuck works as the Transportation Director of Mancelona Public Schools and is Mancelona Township Supervisor. He serves on multiple local boards, including Mancelona Area Water and Sewer Authority, Mancelona Rotary Club, and Mancelona Area Joint Planning Commission.

Marge Buhland, Treasurer and Secretary

Marge owns a small business in Mancelona and also serves as the Secretary of the Mancelona Rotary Club.

Dale Ackler

Dale owns Mancelona Veterinary Hospital, serves on the Mancelona Public Schools Board of Education, and is a member of the Mancelona Rotary Club.

Amy Burk

Amy is the Executive Director of Communities in Schools of Northwest Michigan.

Jeff DiRosa

Jeff is the Superintendent of Mancelona Public Schools.

Doug Derrer

Doug owns Derrer Oil with his family and serves on the Mancelona Regional Chamber of Commerce board as well as the Mancelona Area Joint Planning Commission.

Jim MacQuarrie

Jim is the Field Manager of the Mancelona Area Water and Sewer Authority and serves on the Mancelona Public Schools Board of Education.

Larry Murton

Larry is the Vice Chair of the Communities in Schools of Northwest Michigan Board of Directors.

Staff

Elise Crafts, Program Coordinator

Elise, via Statecraft, assists communities who have an identified vision and plan but need staff presence to implement. She is inspired by Mancelona because of the people who live and volunteer here (many of whom are listed on this page), their vision, and their willingness to do the work.

Karlyn Haas, Grant Writer

Karlyn works with municipalities and non-profits throughout northern Michigan on public and private grants and fund development projects, including recreation, conservation, economic development and the arts.

Tim Ervin, Fund/Partnerships Development

Tim splits his time between Northern Michigan and Islamorada, and works with private foundations, governments, nonprofits and businesses on governance, restructuring and fund development.
